About the Trust
Founded in 1997, the Trust is a registered and accredited environmental body within the Landfill Communities Fund and an approved body within the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund. It distributes funds contributed by SUEZ recycling and recovery UK.

A small, dedicated team runs the Trust, which has an independent Board of Directors that sets strategy and decides funding applications.

The Trust awards funds of up to £50,000 to not-for-profit organisations for projects that are eligible under the rules of the Landfill Communities Fund and Scottish Landfill Communities Fund.

Funding programmes
SUEZ Communities Trust’s funding programmes are designed to improve a broad range of publicly accessible amenities which benefit a wide cross section of the community.  Whether improving a local play area or a nationally significant historic building, each project has the potential to transform the community in which it is based.

The Trust’s biodiversity funding is focused on supporting priority species and habitats present on the Scottish Biodiversity List or List of Priority Species in England and Wales (Sections 41 & 42 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006).
Projects that focus on long-lasting physical improvements at a specified site or amenity are considered for funding. This is typically awarded for the purchase of materials, equipment and the appointment of a contractor to undertake improvement work. The Trust does not fund staff posts, organisational running costs, training or events.

To be eligible for SUEZ Communities Trust funding in England your project must be located within one of the active funding zones. A funding zone is the area surrounding one of 80 qualifying sites owned by SUEZ recycling and recovery UK.

To be eligible for SUEZ Communities Trust funding in Scotland, your project site must be in Scotland. If you are applying for Public Amenity, Biodiversity or Historic Building funding, you will need to establish if your project is in the vicinity of a landfill site or transfer station.
