Davenies students dive into sustainability at SUEZ insight day in Surrey

The day was delivered in partnership with Thomas Franks, the school’s catering provider, who are committed to enhancing environmental sustainability across the schools they serve.

The itinerary began with a visit to Guildford Community Recycling Centre, where students explored how household waste is sorted and processed. A huge thanks to the site team for an engaging and informative tour filled with eye-opening facts and figures that sparked plenty of questions from the students!

The group then travelled to the nearby Eco Park, where they:

• Discovered how energy is generated from waste and learned about the growing range of green careers in the environmental sector

• Took part in an interactive quiz, with prizes donated by our Revive reuse shop

• Got hands-on during a Team Repair workshop, building practical skills and learning about the value of repair and reuse

Days like this are a fantastic opportunity to connect young people to real-world environmental action and show them how they can be part of a greener future.”

Head of Geography and Year 8 Form Teacher at Davenies, Will Maxfield added: “The boys learned a huge amount and were genuinely fascinated by the journey of waste – especially what happens to materials at the CRC. They really enjoyed the practical Team Repair session and were engaged by the quiz and the brilliant prizes from the Revive shop.
