SUEZ celebrates World Oceans Day with River Darwen clean up

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK are today celebrating World Oceans Day with a raft of beach and river clean ups around the country – and Darwen is no exception.

Dozens of community volunteers joined SUEZ staff this morning (Friday 07 June 2019) to collect litter from along the banks of the River Darwen. The litter was taken to SUEZ’s resource recovery park in Darwen where it will be recycled or carefully disposed of.

SUEZ provided volunteers with gloves, litter pickers and waste bags, and everyone that attended received a reusable water bottle to help cut down on litter and plastic consumption. The volunteers managed to collect over 40 bin bags full of litter.

Ed Best, SUEZ’s Regional Manager, said: ““It was fantastic to see the local community coming together today to collect the litter alongside the River Darwen. These materials can easily end up polluting our rivers, oceans and beaches so it is good for us all to be playing our part in protecting the environment.”
