SUEZ joins the great cereal topple!

As new figures show a rising need for foodbanks, SUEZ recycling and recovery UK offer support to local charity Milton Keynes Foodbank.

SUEZ manage the Collection, Street Cleansing and Grounds Maintenance Contract on behalf of Milton Keynes City Council. The new contract focused on a greener and modernised waste collection service and has seen an impressive rise in recycling performance.

However, SUEZ measures its success through its combined environmental, social and economic impact, meaning that enriching the local communities in which we operate is extremely important.

The team in Milton Keynes have been building a relationship with Milton Keynes Foodbank since taking on the contract in September 2023. As well as arranging several donations, they supported the charity with a recent warehouse move, sending 11 volunteers over 4 days to help pack food parcels and clear crates.

In the latest show of support, the team joined in with the charity’s challenge ‘the great cereal topple’, inspired by students at Ousedale Secondary School who created a huge domino topple with cereal boxes. Last year the charity donated 10,000 children’s food parcels, each containing cereal, to families across Milton Keynes and so the challenge aims to collect enough to replicate that again this year.

With data from Milton Keynes Foodbank showing an 85% increase in the number of instances of food support in the year to May 2025 compared to the year to May 2021, it’s clear that support for foodbanks is more than important than ever.

Peter Marshall, Contract General Manager for SUEZ in Milton Keynes, said: “Our team have worked extremely hard to deliver a high-quality service for the people of Milton Keynes since we took on the contract in September 2023. Supporting the community is a huge part of that and we’re proud to offer our help to the invaluable work of Milton Keynes foodbank.”

Louise Hobbs, Operations Manager at Milton Keynes foodbank, said: “‘It’s fantastic working with the SUEZ team - they have supported us for well over a year and are always up for a challenge – whether that’s collecting food, volunteering in our warehouse or taking part in our creative campaigns. We are already looking forward to working together again – thank you so much for your support!’
