Young Engineers in the making: SUEZ sparks sustainability passion

SUEZ brought hands-on sustainability to life for Staplehurst Brownies this week, delivering an interactive “Team Repair Kit” workshop designed to inspire the next generation of eco-conscious engineers.

The session saw Brownies roll up their sleeves to repair real electrical items using specially designed kits from Team Repair, an award-winning company whose mission is to increase STEM uptake and tackle the e-waste crisis, using the magic of repair. Each kit included a faulty appliance alongside the tools and components needed to fix it, guiding participants step-by-step through the process.

As they worked, the Brownies learnt not only how everyday electronics work but also the environmental impact of waste and the importance of correct disposal. The workshop organised by Atlanta Giddings, Partnership and Community Engagement Coordinator at SUEZ, placed a strong emphasis on repair as an alternative to recycling—highlighting how extending the life of products can reduce waste and conserve precious resources.

The Brownies described the activity as “The best evening ever!” and even asked how to get their very own kits as they enjoyed it so much.

Atlanta Giddings, Partnership and Community Engagement Coordinator at SUEZ, said: “We were thrilled to bring this activity to our local Brownies. Seeing their excitement as they repaired items themselves was fantastic. We hope it has sparked their curiosity, inspired future engineers, and encouraged them to think differently about things we might usually throw away.”

Doreen Braganza, Unit Leader (Brown Owl), said: “Wow, what a fantastic evening, the girls all took on the challenge and completed the task. I overheard them telling their parents they were ‘buzzing’ as they left. Thank you so much to SUEZ for delivering such a great learning experience”

The initiative reflects SUEZ’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and environmental education, helping young people understand practical ways they can make a difference – one repair at a time. In recent months SUEZ has signed two major new contracts with long-term customers to operate their critical assets, demonstrating its trusted expertise and leadership in circular solutions for waste and resource management in the UK.
