Birthday treat for Doncaster’s youngest aspiring bin lorry driver
Sienna eagerly waits for her recycling and waste collection vehicle to arrive each week and has been fascinated by bin lorries since she was a toddler.
For her fifth birthday, her family contacted SUEZ with a special request – to give Sienna the opportunity to get up close to the vehicle she loves and meet the crew who help keep Doncaster clean.
The team were only too happy to help.
When the collection vehicle arrived on her street, Sienna received her own personalised, child-sized high-visibility vest before joining the crew to see how the lorry operates.
She watched a demonstration of how recycling is safely tipped into the vehicle and got to take a look inside the crew cab and learn more about its controls.
Sienna already takes great pride in making sure her family’s recycling is sorted correctly, with the crew pleased to confirm there was no contamination in the household recycling bin.
It may have been her first time sitting behind the wheel, but with ambitions to become a bin lorry driver herself, the team are confident it will not be her last.
Sophie, Sienna’s aunt, said: “Since she was very young, bin lorries have been one of Sienna’s greatest joys. Whenever she sees one, she stops completely with total fascination, and it brings her so much happiness. They are a huge source of comfort to her, and her interest in how they work has become a really special part of her world.”
“We wanted to make her birthday truly memorable and give her the chance to see a bin lorry up close, meet the team and learn how everything works.”
“We are so grateful to SUEZ for organising the visit. Seeing how excited she was meant everything to us, and it is a memory she will treasure for years to come.”
Steve Cuppit, Driver at SUEZ, said: “It was the least we could do. Seeing the smile on Sienna’s face made it all worthwhile.”
“We were impressed hearing how much she already knew about recycling, and it was an absolute pleasure to meet her. We’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for her on our rounds and, who knows, maybe one day she’ll be driving us around the route instead.”
To support her future career ambitions, the team also presented Sienna with a Playmobil recycling truck so she can continue practising at home until she is old enough to take the real wheel.
SUEZ looks forward to receiving her application when she’s old enough.
