Better Luton Environment Fund launches to support local environmental projects

Launched in May, the Better Luton Environment Fund is delivered by SUEZ in partnership with Luton Council, as part of its social value commitment. The fund will income generated through donations and purchases at the council's reuse shops to support grassroots initiatives that improve the local environment and benefit local communities.

Six projects were selected to receive support and ranged from The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, for Green Skills in the Hills, helping to protect Luton's chalk grassland habitats through conservation work, litter reduction and volunteer training to projects like St Andrew's Church in Luton for its Schools Nature Education Programme, giving children opportunities to learn about wildlife, biodiversity and local green spaces.

Jack Barber, Partnership and Community Engagement Manager, said: "The enthusiasm and innovation shown by local organisations has been fantastic to see. These projects reflect the positive impact that can be achieved when communities come together to reduce waste, enhance local green spaces and support more sustainable ways of living. We're delighted that the fund can help turn these ideas into action for the benefit of residents and the environment."

The funded projects are expected to begin delivery over the coming months, with activities taking place across Luton.
