Tackling climate change

Tackling climate change and reducing carbon emissions in supply chains is important for all businesses. One of SUEZ recycling and recovery UK’s ambitions is to ‘go beyond net zero carbon’ and become carbon positive by preventing more carbon than we generate by 2040. We can’t achieve this without you, our suppliers, also taking steps to reduce the carbon emissions of your products and services.

We have been impressed by many of the smaller companies that we work with, who are using innovative ways to protect the environment and reduce their carbon emissions. This gives these organisations a real competitive advantage as increasingly customers are looking for more sustainable suppliers.

If you are not sure where to start, you can check out the many free resources out there to help. Training is available from our partner, the Supply Chain Sustainability School, and the SME Climate Hub is a dedicated initiative to help small and medium sized enterprises.

The SME Climate Hub is a non-profit global initiative that empowers small to medium sized companies to take climate action and build resilient businesses for the future. It is a fantastic resource that allow these companies to access free guidance and support, so they can calculate and reduce their own emissions.

Commit

The first step is to commit to halve your carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050.

Measure

A carbon calculator is available so you can assess your own carbon emissions and identify the hotspots in your own business.

Learn

There is also a free training course, Climate Fit, which has been developed by the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) and Business for Social Responsibility (BSR™). Climate Fit offers a step-by-step training plan delivered over seven core modules:

  1. Governance and strategy.
  2. Operations.
  3. Supply chain.
  4. Design for net zero.
  5. Finance.
  6. People and community.
  7. Net zero storytelling.
