Rugby club tackles sustainability
As part of this partnership, Cornish Pirates Rugby Club will promote the use of branded reusable cups at every match day event, encouraging fans and attendees to reduce their environmental impact. This initiative not only helps diminish plastic waste but also reinforcing a community commitment to sustainability among the club's supporters. The reusable cups will be available for purchase at all matchday events, with 50p of every £1 reusable cup going to this year’s chosen charity ‘Cash for Kids’.
Mark Hillson, PFI General Manager for Cornwall at SUEZ said: ‘As a proud Cornishman, I’m passionate not only about Rugby but also about our environment and the natural beauty Cornwall has to offer. Helping local businesses and organisations like Cornish Pirates to become more sustainable and educate local communities is a real passion at SUEZ. I’m delighted to be supporting them on their sustainability journey.’
As part of the Cornish Pirates Education Programme, this year they are encouraging schools to learn more about the environment and sustainability by visiting SUEZ’s free education centres, showcasing what initiatives they have that promote sustainability and biodiversity as well as designing a flag to promote a more sustainable Cornwall. The winning design will be manufactured and hoisted at this year’s first ever Cornish Pirates focussed sustainability day in January 2026.
