SUEZ recycling and recovery UK joins pact to create a circular packaging system for the UK

The UK Packaging Pact, led by WRAP, officially launched today (27 November) as the successor to the UK Plastics Pact with SUEZ and 54 other founding organisations committing to the 10-year voluntary agreement.

The new Pact significantly expands its scope beyond plastics to include all packaging materials and aims to accelerate the transition to a circular packaging system in the UK. Its four interconnected goals focus on: Optimising Packaging (eliminating problematic materials and boosting recycled content), Scaling Reuse & Refill (creating standardised, interoperable systems), Supporting Circular Infrastructure Investment (unlocking funds to close gaps in collection and recycling), and Harmonising Data (improving traceability and simplifying reporting).

In response to the launch, Dr Adam Read MBE, Chief Sustainability and External Affairs Officer for SUEZ said: "We wholeheartedly support the expansion of the Plastic Pact in targeting a wider packaging mix of materials.

SUEZ was involved throughout the former pact and welcome the progress made but now it is time to step up the value chain effort to drive out unwanted packaging, deliver increased refill and reuse, and ensure the recycling system meets the needs and demands of the packaging being placed on the market alongside the significant service reforms of EPR and simpler recycling."
