Free sandbags in High Peak, Derbyshire

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK has made sandbags available to residents in High Peak free of charge.

Following developments at Toddbrook Reservoir in Whaley Bridge, and the news that more rain is to come, SUEZ in Derbyshire will be allowing residents to help themselves to sandbags from Waterswallows household waste recycling centre in Buxton from Wednesday morning (07 August 2019).

The sandbags are part of SUEZ’s street sweepings recycling scheme. The material inside the sandbags is made up of finer sand and grit collected from the roadside where it is diverted from landfill and put to good use.

Jason Ruffell, Senior Site Manager at SUEZ, said: “We’re really glad we were able to do this. It’s only a small contribution to the efforts, but most of the team live locally and wanted to give something back.”

Sandbags can be collected from Waterswallows household waste recycling centre, Waterswallows Road, Buxton SK17 7JB. The facility is open from 8.30am until 6pm every day. As stocks are limited, we encourage residents not to take more than approximately 10 per household.
