Local community groups invited to apply to £5,000 Doncaster Environment Fund

Community groups and organisations across Doncaster are being invited to apply for funding to support projects that improve green spaces, support nature, and help communities take greater care of their local environment.

The fund is delivered by SUEZ, who provide waste and recycling collections for over 150,000 homes and businesses in the borough on behalf of City of Doncaster Council. As part of its waste management responsibilities, SUEZ collects small electrical items at the kerbside. The proceeds from these collections provides the funding to enable the company to reinvest in community projects which benefit the area. The greater the volume of items collected, the more resources are available to support local initiatives.

Grants of up to £1,000 are available for a wide range of projects including improvements to parks and shared spaces, tree planting and habitat improvement, community clean-up initiatives, and activities that encourage people to get involved in environmental action.

Over its lifetime, the fund has supported a number of local initiatives, and in the last two years it provided funding to local food banks to help redistribute surplus food and support those in need within the community.

Shane Atkins, Contract General Manager at SUEZ, said: “We are pleased to be opening the Doncaster Environment Fund for 2026 and continuing to support the work that local groups are doing across the area. We have already seen the difference that community-led projects can make to the environment, and this new round of funding will help groups deliver improvements that people can see and take pride in.”

Deputy Mayor and portfolio holder for Environment Services, Glyn Jones, said: “Community groups, voluntary organisations, schools and charities are all encouraged to have a look and see how this fund might be able to assist in their local green projects. Funding has previously made a massive difference to organisations in Doncaster, with a total of up-to £1,000 available. This can help with things such as training activities or purchasing much needed equipment.

“This is a fantastic initiative which combines green projects and community funding, with the grants made available as a consequence of recycling small electrical items at the kerbside. I look forward to hearing about all the local projects which have received this funding.”

The fund is open to not-for-profit organisations, community groups and schools in the City of Doncaster area. Projects should be ready to deliver and capable of being completed by the end of 2026.

Applications are now open via the ActionFunder platform.

The application deadline is 15 May 2026, with successful projects expected to be announced later in May.
