Giving something back

Excess laptop bags find a new home thanks to SUEZ and Compass

SUEZ’s Industrial & Commercial team, working with customer Compass, has helped give more than 500 excess laptop bags from a shared client a new lease of life, redistributing them to HITZ learners at the Harlequins Foundation and community members at The Lighthouse in Surrey.

Compass approached SUEZ to find the most sustainable and impactful way to manage the surplus. Drawing on its charity and social value network, SUEZ identified opportunities to put the bags to good use rather than letting them go to waste.

The Harlequins Foundation HITZ programme is an award-winning employability initiative supporting young people not in employment, education, or training (NEET), while The Lighthouse works to tackle poverty of resources, relationships, identity, and spirit across Surrey and Hampshire.

Recipients were delighted with the donations. One Lighthouse attendee said: “Perfect timing — the zip on my rucksack split today and I didn’t know how I was going to sort another one.” Another added: “Thanks so much, I love it!”

Leah Poultney, Account Director at SUEZ, said: “By working closely with customer Compass, we were able to find a meaningful way to reuse these surplus laptop bags rather than dispose of them. It’s fantastic to see these items supporting HITZ learners at the Harlequins Foundation and community members at The Lighthouse – groups making a real difference in people’s lives.”

This initiative highlights SUEZ’s commitment to sustainable action and social value, showing how even small acts of reuse can have a lasting positive impact on local communities.
