SUEZ champions green skills and the circular economy at local university

Judith Gordon, Reuse Hub Supervisor at SUEZ took time out of her busy day to inspire students by showcasing career pathways in the circular economy and highlighting the growing demand for green skills across the UK job market.

Invited as a guest speaker at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol she explored careers and opportunities within the waste industry and highlighted how green skills are required for future work employment around reuse, repair, and waste management. Students learned about practical career routes within reuse operations, waste reduction, materials management, and community engagement.

The session emphasised the importance of green skills — from hands on repair knowledge to strategic circular-economy planning — and the role they play in enabling businesses and communities to reduce environmental impact while creating new economic opportunities and community benefits.

“Students are increasingly passionate about sustainability, and it’s vital they know there are meaningful career paths that align with those values. The circular economy and reuse is expanding quickly, and we need talented young people who can help drive innovation, reduce waste, and support a more sustainable future.” Said Judith Gordon, Reuse Hub Supervisor.

“Hearing directly from professionals working in reuse and sustainability is incredibly valuable for our students,” said Sarah Behenna, Researcher in Science Communication at UWE. “The insights shared today help bridge the gap between academic learning and the real-world skills employers are seeking.”

As demand for green jobs continues to grow nationally, the collaboration highlights the essential role of education and industry working together to build a green skilled workforce of the future.
