What is sustainable consumption?

United Kingdom
From 20/10/2022 12:00:00 to 20/10/2022 13:00:00 local time
  • We are in a climate emergency, which is disproportionately being driven by what we buy, use and discard. In the UK we consume at a rate that would need three earths to sustain us. However, whether you are an individual, company or policy maker looking to make a positive change, it’s difficult to understand what sustainable consumption is, what it means in practice, and how you can take positive action.

The "Stuff of Life” report, commissioned by SUEZ recycling and recovery UK and conducted by Beasley Associates Ltd, examines the who, what and why of our consumption habits. Where the major opportunities are for people and planet by changing how and what we consume, and how consumers, businesses and government each have an important role to play in creating systemic change. The report considers how each party can make a difference through actions taken in three key areas of everyday life with the highest average spend, and the greatest opportunity to make a difference to both the planet and, in many cases, our wallets.

During this hour-long interactive webinar, our panel of experts will discuss the data behind the report, what it means to individuals, businesses and governments, how the suggested actions can be brought about, and the challenges that will need to be overcome to make them a reality.

  • Speakers

Dr Adam Read of SUEZ chairs the session and, as the commissioner of the report, is an advocate of small steps and positive action.
