Pre-schoolers visit SUEZ Maldon Depot to learn about recycling and community helpers

The SUEZ team at our Maldon depot recently welcomed a group of inquisitive young visitors eager to learn more about waste, recycling, and the people who help keep our communities clean and sustainable.

Organised by Ofsted-registered childminders, the visit was part of an annual educational programme themed “People Who Help Us in the Community.” This initiative introduces preschool-aged children to various public service roles, from emergency responders to other essential workers.

The highlight of the Maldon visit was an interactive session with Workshop Technician Darren Searles, who guided the children through the workings of one of our collection vehicles. The children had the opportunity to sit in the lorry cab, sound the horn, try on safety gear, and witness how waste is loaded into the vehicle.

The visit aimed to engage the children with real-world learning experiences, sparking curiosity about environmental responsibility and the vital services that contribute to community wellbeing.

The childminders shared their heartfelt appreciation: “The children had a fantastic time and were so excited to try everything. We really appreciated your time, patience, and enthusiasm. I have no doubt they’ll be telling their parents all about it!”

Commenting on the visit, Contract Manager Barry Dolphin said: “It’s always a pleasure to welcome young people to our depots and help them understand the important role waste and recycling plays in our communities. Engaging with children at such an early age is a great way to build awareness about sustainability and inspire the next generation!”
