Giving something back

Two minutes. One simple action. A cleaner community

SUEZ has rolled out 2‑Minute Litter Pick boards across Mid‑Kent, following the success of a pilot scheme in Ashford that proved how small actions can make a big difference.

The bright, accessible boards encourage residents and visitors to spend just two minutes picking up litter, providing simple equipment and clear prompts to make taking action easy, quick and rewarding.

After strong public uptake and positive feedback in Ashford, the scheme has now been expanded to additional locations across Mid‑Kent at local council venues like leisure centres and business.

In Ashford, residents actively engage with the three boards located at Victoria Park, Ashford Town Centre and by Conningbrook Lakes, citing a feeling of great pride in restoring order to their local area. This sentiment was seen as a key factor in the decision to expand across Mid-Kent.

One of the boards being cared for by Maidstone Museum, has reported high levels of engagement from both residents and visitors.

Staff at Maidstone Museum said the board had been a great success, with people regularly stopping to take part and respond positively to the opportunity to contribute to keeping the local area clean and welcoming.

Councillor Clive English, Maidstone Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Enforcement: “This initiative shows how the smallest actions can make a difference. By encouraging people to take just two minutes to pick up litter, we’re helping build pride in our shared spaces and supporting a cleaner, more welcoming environment for everyone.”

The continued rollout reflects SUEZ’s commitment to not only collecting residents waste and increasing recycling rates but to working with local communities, and encouraging practical, hands‑on ways for people to get involved in protecting their environment.

James Farquhar, Regional Manager at SUEZ said: "By empowering people to take just two minutes to make a visible difference, the initiative helps raise awareness of litter, sparks conversations about the environmental, and builds a stronger sense of shared ownership of public spaces."

SUEZ has worked closely with Mid Kent Councils to identify locations and opportunities to expand the scheme, so if you see a board, why not get involved and take two minutes to support a cleaner, greener community.
