New re-use shop opens at Waterswallows Recycling Centre
The new shop, delivered in partnership with the council, is the latest addition to our growing network of re-use shops helping to keep good-quality products in use for longer and prevent valuable items from going to waste.
From furniture and homeware to garden equipment, books, CDs and vinyl, the shop gives items brought to the recycling centre the opportunity to find a new home at affordable prices.
Sean Matty, Regional Manager at SUEZ, said: “Re-use is a vital part of SUEZ’s approach, helping to keep valuable items in circulation and prevent unnecessary waste.
“By offering quality pre-loved items at affordable prices, we are helping people access the products they need, while every purchase extends the life of an item, delivering environmental benefits while creating positive value for the community.”
Items sold through the shop are donated by residents visiting the HWRC. Staff carefully set aside items that are still in good condition, which are then checked and made available for purchase.
Councillor Carol Wood, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “The launch of the Waterswallows Re-use Shop follows on from the success of our re-use store at Bolsover and it’s great that we’re able to give items a new lease of life in Buxton now too.
“And the fact we’ll be looking to pass on the profits to benefit local communities makes it a real winner.”
The Waterswallows Re-Use shop is open from 9am to 4pm every Wednesday to Sunday, excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and is a cashless store, with purchases made by card or other electronic payment methods.
Proceeds from sales will contribute towards the running costs of the shop, with any profits going to local charitable causes.
Visitors to the HWRC can speak to a member of the SUEZ team if they have an item they think may be suitable for re-use. Site staff may also identify suitable items brought to the site and set them aside for resale.
