The mission
Reduce packaging waste through a scalable re-use model
Eurox Ltd supplies workwear and PPE (personal protective equipment) across the UK, with every order requiring durable cardboard boxes. However, using new packaging for every delivery led to unnecessary waste and higher costs. Eurox aimed to find a practical, circular solution – one that would cut waste, support sustainability goals and reduce packaging costs by at least 30%.
SUEZ was a natural partner due to its expertise in circular economy solutions and a long-standing collaboration built on trust and operational efficiency. Together, they designed a re-use system that ensured a steady supply of durable second-use boxes, keeping packaging materials in circulation for longer.
Our solutions
A closed-loop system that keeps packaging in use
The teams began reviewing packaging volumes, costs and durability. Trials confirmed that second-use boxes could perform just as well as new ones, ensuring the system was both practical and scalable.
To promote resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact, we established a closed-loop system with Eurox for packaging materials. This system involves the provision of previously used packaging to Eurox for their shipping needs. Following their use, these materials are collected and processed to ensure they meet quality standards for further application. Eurox then reintegrates these materials into their supply chain, creating a sustainable and cyclical approach to packaging use.
To support the transition, an educational initiative was introduced, ensuring customers understood how to prepare boxes for re-use, extending their life span. This straightforward system eliminated single-use packaging while maintaining supply chain efficiency and cutting costs.
The result
Thousands of boxes reused, reducing waste and delivering cost savings
Since implementing the re-use system, thousands of boxes have been kept in circulation annually, significantly reducing demand for new packaging materials. Eurox achieved its 30% cost savings goal within just over a year, while also cutting the amount of cardboard waste needing disposal or recycling.
This system ensures a steady, reliable supply of packaging and supports seamless operations. It also lowers environmental impact, which aligns with both companies’ sustainability goals. This proven, scalable model not only delivers measurable cost but also a much-welcomed reduction in waste.
With this project’s success, Eurox has fully integrated the system into its operations and is committed to continuing it. The company has also endorsed SUEZ as a trusted sustainability partner, proving that simple, practical changes can deliver significant financial and environmental benefits.
