The mission

A reliable way to recycle dispensers, built to work at scale

Wrapmaster® has been supporting chefs and kitchens around the world for over 40 years. Designed to tackle food and wrap waste, it’s proven to cut costs and improve efficiency in the kitchen, making it the ultimate chef wrap system.

A fixture in commercial kitchens, Wrapmaster® dispensers are built to last and are valued for making food wrapping safer, quicker and more efficient. But every product eventually reaches the end of its working life. Until now, the only option for most kitchens was to throw old dispensers into general waste.

The mission was to create a better and safer way to dispose of this product. Wrapmaster® wanted to take responsibility for its products beyond the point of sale, offering customers a simple way to recycle dispensers and keep valuable materials in use. By working with SUEZ, the aim was to deliver a solution that kitchens could trust. It had to be straightforward to use, reliable in its recycling outcomes and transparent from start to finish.

Our solution

An easy, reliable and transparent return scheme that benefits UK and EU manufacturers

Return to Recycle was launched to meet this need. The scheme allows kitchens to return broken or end-of-life dispensers of any brand, free of charge, in exchange for a new Wrapmaster® replacement. This keeps the process effortless for chefs and managers who already face demanding schedules.

SUEZ manages the collection and treatment of the returned units. They are sent to a specialist reprocessor, where they are cleaned to remove any food contamination, sorted and transformed into new plastic pellets and recovered metals. These secondary materials are supplied to UK and EU manufacturers, reducing the demand for virgin resources. Any residues that cannot be recycled are sent for energy recovery, ensuring nothing goes to landfill.

The partnership builds on existing links between the two companies. Many organisations that already work with SUEZ for their waste management also rely on Wrapmaster® products in their kitchens. The scheme closes the loop for those customers, connecting everyday kitchen practice with wider sustainability goals. Compliance and due diligence are handled by SUEZ, giving operators confidence that recycling outcomes are genuine and fully traceable.

The results

Hundreds returned, with over 97% expected to be recycled

The scheme is still in its early stages but momentum is building. Hundreds of dispensers have already been returned. Based on process trials, more than 97% of each dispenser is expected to be recyclable into plastics and metals suitable for new raw materials. Any remaining materials is directed to energy recovery, ensuring nothing is sent to landfill.

For customers, the benefits are practical as well as environmental. They receive free replacement dispensers and reduce the volume of waste going into general bins. For Wrapmaster ®, the scheme demonstrates that product stewardship can be made simple and rewarding. And for SUEZ, it shows how established recycling expertise can support a supplier in taking responsibility for its products throughout their lifecycle.

Both companies are now exploring how to build on this foundation. Plans are in place to extend Return to Recycle into other European markets where Wrapmaster® operates, using SUEZ’s recycling facilities in France and Spain to support international clients.

What began as a simple return scheme is fast becoming a model of how suppliers and recyclers can work together for lasting impact. For Wrapmaster ®, SUEZ and their customers, this is only the start of a bigger circular journey.

As part of our mission to be 100% circular, Cofresco Foodservice’s long-term goal will be to retrieve these recycled polymers and use them to manufacture new Wrapmaster® dispensers. We’re excited to take a significant step forward in our sustainability journey through Return to Recycle by Wrapmaster®, as well as supporting chefs and operators in theirs. We can’t thank SUEZ enough for their support in helping us to develop this innovative scheme.
