Re-use

Sidmouth Surf Club promotes sustainability and the wellbeing of local children

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK is delighted to support Sidmouth Surf Life Saving Club with reused wetsuits for local primary school taster day.

The fun day covers beach and water safety, so taking part will ensure all the children can have a safer summer holiday.

This collaboration helps to foster a love of the ocean while promoting sustainability. SUEZ has donated a selection of reused wetsuits to the Surf Club, enabling primary school children to experience surfing through the taster sessions.

The Sidmouth Surf Life Saving Club is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2013 and affiliated with Surf Life Saving GB, a national charity of 7,000 volunteers helping to make our beaches safer and more enjoyable places for everyone.

The club aims to provide children and young people aged 7 to 16 with opportunities to improve their health and wellbeing through fun physical activity and social interaction.

This collaboration seeks to provide children with the opportunity to engage in an exciting outdoor activity while emphasising the importance of reusing and recycling materials. By giving new life to wet suits, SUEZ demonstrates its commitment to sustainable practices and a more circular economy.

"We believe that connecting children with nature at a young age is crucial for developing environmental awareness," said Jacqui Winterburn, Reuse Manager at SUEZ. "Our donation of wetsuits not only supports Sidmouth Surf Club but also reinforces our mission to reduce waste and promote sustainability."

With Sidmouth Surf Life Saving Club’s help, students will learn the basics of surfing, including water safety, paddling techniques, and riding waves—all while donning the reused wetsuits donated by SUEZ. The sessions aim to create a fun and educational environment that inspires participants to appreciate and care for their local beaches.

"With the support of SUEZ, we are thrilled to provide this opportunity for Year 4’s at Sidmouth Primary school," stated Alex Spalding, from Sidmouth Surf Life Saving Club. "These sessions will not only teach children a valuable skill but also spark conversations about environmental consciousness and the role we all play in protecting our oceans."
