Pop-Up re-use shops raise £2,848 for Macmillan and British Heart Foundation

SUEZ recycling and recovery UK and North Tyneside Council celebrated the success of a series of pop-up re-use shops with the presentation of a donation of £2,848 to Macmillan Cancer Support and the British Heart Foundation.

The donation was raised from sales during several pop up re-use shops held across North Tyneside in recent months, where residents shopped for quality pre-loved items while supporting two life-changing charities.

Steve Atkinson, Regional Manager at SUEZ, said: “We are delighted to hand over this donation to our corporate charity partners, Macmillan and the British Heart Foundation, on behalf of everyone who supported the pop-up shops. The pop-ups are a fantastic initiative that help us to offer quality goods at affordable prices while saving them from waste and benefiting the environment too, with the added benefit of supporting two really important charities. The popularity of them has continued to grow, and we are proud to work with North Tyneside Council to support the local community.”

In partnership with North Tyneside Council, the pop ups offered everything from furniture and homeware to toys, books and bikes – all items rescued from North Tyneside’s Household Waste and Recycling Centre and given a new lease of life. Every purchase not only prevented quality pre-loved goods from going to waste, but also directly contributed to the fundraising total.

Councillor Sandra Graham, Cabinet Member for the Climate Emergency, said: “It’s wonderful to see our residents supporting these pop-up re-use shops, helping to give pre-loved items a second life while raising money for two fantastic charities. Initiatives like this show how we can combine sustainability with community spirit, and I’m delighted that North Tyneside Council and SUEZ can work together to make a real difference for people in North Tyneside and across the country.”

Lucy Clegg, Corporate Partnership Officer for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are so grateful to everyone at SUEZ who helped organise the pop-up re-use shops across North Tyneside. This donation will go so far to help everyone with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. We are extremely proud of our partnership with SUEZ and want to thank them for their continued support.”

Anyone affected by cancer looking for support or just someone to talk to, should call 0808 808 00 00 or visit macmillan.org.uk/whateveryouneed.

Samantha Wilkins, Fundraising Manager for British Heart Foundation said: “What an incredible way to raise funds for BHF. I want to thank all those involved in the pop-up shops for their hard work and support. Your donation will help those with cardiovascular disease in the UK. We are very proud to be in a partnership with SUEZ and thank everyone for their support.”

The donation will be shared equally between the two charities, helping them to continue their vital work in communities across the UK.

SUEZ and North Tyneside Council are actively exploring new opportunities to bring re-use to local high streets and communities, giving pre-loved items a second life while supporting good causes.
