SUEZ and Southend's City Council support hospices charity with 34th SUEZ Reuse Shop
The Reuse Shop, at Stock Road, is the 34th re-use outlet in the SUEZ network and is a joint initiative that will support Essex charity, Havens Hospices, by providing a retail space for residents using the HWRC to both donate and purchase reusable household items.
Havens Hospices will also manage the ReUse Shop as part of its chain of outlets throughout the county whose proceeds go to support the charity’s work across Essex.
Welcoming the new shop, General Manager for SUEZ Vincent Masseri said: “We know people have a choice of where to buy goods and, if they want to reduce their carbon footprint, save money and help a fantastic local charity, opting for pre-loved over new is the way to go.
“Reuse shops like the one at Stock Road aim to reduce the reliance on the Earth’s dwindling reserve of raw materials and keep products out of the waste stream by extending their lifespan through re-using, repairing or repurposing them.”
The shop represents just one of the improvements the Council are introducing to help make it easier for residents to recycle their household items and reduce unwanted waste.
Southend Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Waste, Cllr Lydia Hyde said: “We’re delighted to support the opening of the Havens Hospices shop at Stock Road HWRC. This fantastic initiative gives residents the opportunity to donate reusable items, helping to reduce waste while supporting the incredible care Havens Hospices provides to our community. It’s a practical and meaningful way for people to make a real difference.”
