SUEZ staff embrace the elements in six-month charity drive for BHF and Macmillan
More than 7,000 employees are being encouraged to take part in activities themed around Earth, Air, Fire and Water as part of ‘The Big Four’ event in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Macmillan Cancer Support.
SUEZ organises a UK-wide ‘Big’ charity event every other year and, in 2023, staff from Aberdeen to Cornwall baked, biked, walked and car-booted their way to an impressive £145,000 total – £15,000 of which was raised by a SUEZ C-suite cycle ride from Maidenhead to Paris.
For 2025, led again by CEO John Scanlon, the intrepid senior team will tackle an 84-mile coast-to-coast yomp along Hadrian’s wall – in just four days.
“The Big Four walk along Hadrian’s wall will be as tough – if not tougher – than our 200+ mile bike ride to Paris,” said John Scanlon “..but this time I’ll hopefully only get blisters on my feet!”
Elsewhere staff have embraced the Big Four theme with plans already in place for sponsored tree plantings (Earth), skydives (Air), chilli eating contests (Fire) and swims (Water) to name just a few.
Jemma Pegg, Partnerships Manager at the BHF said: “We are honoured that Suez have chosen to support us and we want to say a heartfelt thank you to all the staff who will be fundraising on our behalf during this partnership.
“With 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK, and these conditions tragically causing one in four deaths, we urgently need to find ways to keep millions of hearts beating so that more families can be together for longer.
“It is only thanks to the generous support of companies like SUEZ that we can keep research going and discover the treatments and cures of the future.”
Flo McMullen, Senior Partnerships Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support added: “We are so grateful to everyone at SUEZ for their incredible support. There are currently 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK and this number is expected to rise to 4 million by 2030. We are extremely proud of our partnership with SUEZ which helps Macmillan continue to do whatever it takes for people living with cancer.”
The results of the Big Four fundraiser will be announced at the end of the year.
Added John Scanlon: “The big charity events are a brilliant way to bring us all together to give something back and support two amazing charities that we know have been there for so many of our colleagues and their families and the communities where we are based.”
