SUEZ and Unite Students support South London community groups through bin reuse initiative

SUEZ recently partnered with Unite Students to support community organisations across South London by giving a second life to a number of high-quality metal bins originally set for disposal.

When Will Rushgrove, SUEZ’s Account Manager for Unite Students, noticed the bins were due to be thrown away, the Mitcham depot team stepped in to put them to good use.

Coordinated by Assistant Service Delivery Manager Ted Tapner, the bins were rehomed with local charities providing vital support to the community.

The donations went to Faith in Action, which helps people experiencing homelessness in Merton; Muschamp Community Cupboard, a volunteer-run group providing food and essentials to local families; and Dons Community Action, which redistributes surplus food and household goods to those in need.

Faith in Action said the “really great quality bins” were much appreciated, while Muschamp Community Cupboard shared “a big thank you to SUEZ UK.” By repurposing these items, SUEZ and Unite Students have helped these organisations focus their resources where they’re needed most – supporting local people.

Commenting on the initiative, Joe Pusey, SUEZ’s Partnership and Social Value Manager, said: “This project shows how simple, practical actions can make a real difference. By working closely with our partners and thinking creatively, we’ve been able to keep useful items in circulation while supporting organisations that do incredible work in their communities. It’s a great example of collaboration delivering both environmental and social value.”
